The Guernsey International Business Association (GIBA) has appointed Paul Sykes, Managing Director at Aon, as its new Deputy Chair.
Paul (pictured) joins GIBA Chair Paul Hodgson, who succeeded Tony Mancini as Chair of GIBA in May 2021.
Paul Sykes has worked with Aon for over 25 years, developing businesses for Aon and the White Rock Group in Guernsey, Gibraltar and Malta. He is the former Chairman of the Insurance Industry Associations in both Gibraltar and Guernsey and a past President of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in Guernsey and was a member of GIBA Council from 2013 to 2015.
His experience includes playing a key role in launching the world’s first protected cell company, White Rock PCC, and he introduced the first insurance linked securities in Guernsey.
GIBA’s member associations represent the major financial institutions and professional firms on the island and, as such, it is the representative body of the financial services industry in Guernsey.
Commenting on the appointment, Paul Hodgson, GIBA Chair, said: “I am particularly pleased to welcome Paul as Deputy Chair of the association in light of his long experience and wide network within the business community, especially in the insurance industry where he has been instrumental in the development of Guernsey’s leading position globally.
“The finance sector continues to be the bedrock of Guernsey’s economy and it is more important than ever for the different sectors and associations to work together to ensure Guernsey has a role in the ever-changing global finance industry.”
Paul Sykes said: “The financial services industry remains in a period of change as it helps the world respond to climate change and ESG concerns, recover from the pandemic and meet the headwinds of international tax changes; these themes bring opportunity, and I am looking forward to supporting the industry and representing the views of our member associations in my new role as Deputy Chair of GIBA.”
