The popular Butterfield-sponsored Durrell Challenge returns on Sunday 23th May in Jersey, and in virtual form over the course of the weekend from 21st to 24th May for runners unable to travel to the island due to restrictions.
The Durrell Challenge is a 13K road race and virtual run which raises funds and support for the work the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust does in protecting some of the most threatened wildlife all over the world.
Noel McLaughlin, Managing Director of Butterfield Bank in Jersey, said: “Durrell plays a huge role in our community and Butterfield is proud to support them and the vital work they do across the world.
“This year marks the third year of Butterfield’s sponsorship and the race has always been a fantastic event. We were excited to see the launch of the virtual run last year which enabled people to take part and support the cause on a more global scale. It was a great success and we hope that more people take part this year – it has certainly encouraged some of our colleagues in other jurisdictions to sign up.
“We have a number of people taking part from our Mauritius office, which is extremely fitting as Durrell has a long-term partnership with the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. We look forward to supporting everyone who is taking part in the challenge, and extend our thanks to the great team of volunteers who will be on hand during the race in Jersey.”
Over the last three years, over £200,000 has been raised through the Durrell Challenge and the support given by its strong community of runners and advocates for the cause. This year up to local 500 runners are taking part in the 13K road race in Jersey and they will be joined by a further 650 virtual runners.
