Islanders who took part in Jersey’s third colour run helped raise more than £17,000 for Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC).

A total of 971 people took part in The Dandara Colour Run on Sunday 16hJune 2018, which saw participants being showered with coloured paint as they made their way along a five-kilometre stretch of beach in St Aubin’s Bay. The money raised was generated through ticket sales, individual sponsorships and sponsorships from the local business community.

Each colour station at the event was sponsored by a local organisation, including headline sponsor Dandara along with UBS, BNP Paribas, The Enhance Group and Jersey Electricity.  Itchy Feet Recruitment ran the registration desks, Volunteer.je supported runners throughout the course, Fitness First provided a brilliant warm up and bottled water for participants, Andersons donated masks for the runners and DJ Mel provided entertainment throughout the afternoon and live links to Channel 103.

Proceeds from the colour run will be used to continue the funding of Paediatric Care Worker, Nicola Waggott. Nicola works closely with local children and families on the Jersey Children’s Palliative Care Pathway – a care plan developed for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions in Jersey. Nicola undertakes a specialist role designed to complement the Community Children’s Nursing Team, which is commissioned by the States of Jersey.

Nicola responds to the needs of children and their families using an active and total care approach. As the role evolves, FNHC will be able to evaluate the experiences of children and families on the Pathway and develop the role to provide islanders with the highest levels of care and support.

Bronwen Whittaker, Chief Executive Officer at FNHC said: “The enthusiasm from participants has been overwhelming. We can always count on the Jersey community to come together for a great cause like this. We are thrilled with the amount raised by the runners and are so grateful for all the support for Nicola and her role.”

“On behalf of everyone at Family Nursing & Home Care, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our corporate sponsors for their continued support and for helping to make the colour run a continued success. Every penny will go towards improving the lives of families that have children with life-limiting illnesses,” added Miss Whittaker.

FNHC Fundraising Officer, Mia Mistry, said: “The Dandara Colour Run has had another successful year and we couldn’t have done it without the amazing support from our sponsors, our team and of course the general public who came out to cheer us on.

“As always, we try to make the event environmentally cautious. As well as our paints being bio-degradable, this year we also had environmentally friendly donations from Bean Around the World, who donated paper cups and Jersey Water, who provided a refill station and reusable bottles for runners.

“Finally, we would like to thank all our volunteers who helped as marshals, with the bag drop and merchandise stalls – we couldn’t have done it without you,” added Mrs Mistry.

Donations can still be made via the FNHC website or by calling 01534 443664. The date for the 2019 colour run is soon to be announced. Updates can be tracked on the FNCH Facebook page.
