Survey launched to capture public opinions on town centre and local shopping experience

A new retail survey has been launched which will gather Islanders’ opinions on local shopping and on the development of St Peter Port and other community hubs.

Run by Island Global Research, the Local Shopping and Town Use Survey is being undertaken for the Guernsey Retail Group (GRG) and explores how local people would like to see the centres in Town, the Bridge and St Martin’s evolve. The survey findings will ultimately contribute to the continued development of the retail strategy for Guernsey.

Jonathan Creasey, Chair of the GRG, commented: “Guernsey needs to ensure that its retail sector meets the needs and expectations of Islanders into the future. This is therefore not just focussed on shopping, but is designed to establish opinions on our centres for accessing hospitality, amenities and other services.

“This is an ideal opportunity for Islanders to put forward their opinions on how Town and other commercial centres can adapt in order to best meet current and future needs of local residents.

“We ask, and encourage, as many people as possible to complete the survey as the findings will represent the collective voice of the Guernsey shopper and are therefore valuable to the retail sector.”

The questionnaire prompts the reasons that Islanders visit the various centres, rates their experiences, what would encourage them to visit more frequently, the methods of transport chosen along with a range of shopping specific questions.

Deputy Neil Inder, President of the Committee for Economic Development, commented: “We recognise the importance of a healthy, vibrant and relevant retail sector and will be interested to hear what people would like from the local shopping experience in the future. This is an ideal opportunity to influence the development of Town and The Bridge areas.”

The survey is open to residents in the Bailiwick of Guernsey aged 16 and over and can be found here. It takes around 10-15 minutes to complete.
