Beginning in October, the group sessions will take place at St Ouen’s Bay. In collaboration with My Time 4 Young Carers, Laneez will provide the surf lessons and make all necessary travel arrangements for those taking part.
Laneez, a family run surf school led by brother and sister Scott and Grace Donaldson, has been operating from the White Hut, in Le Port car park, St Ouen since 2017.
My Time 4 Young Carers offers support to young carers who look after another family member. My Time gives those carers the chance to get away from their extra responsibilities, to experience something new and, most importantly, to have fun.
“We believe the waves in Jersey are one of the island’s best attractions and it would be a great shame for anyone growing up here not to experience the joy of riding a wave,” said Grace.
“We are extremely grateful to Carey Olsen for sponsoring this project. It will enable us to broaden our reach and to encourage and develop the next generation of surfers in Jersey and importantly, to include those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the thrill and benefits of surfing”.
Carey Olsen corporate partner Kate Andrews said: “Having spent time with Grace and Scott this summer, I know just how much fun surfing can be. We are delighted to be involved with this initiative to give these amazing young carers the chance to catch some waves at St Ouen’s”.
