New photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of Sure’s Castel exchange have generated more than 4.76 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy – enough power to run an average home for a year – since being installed at the end of May 2024.
The Castel site is the first of Sure’s exchanges to benefit from the technology, with further installations planned throughout the rest of 2024 and into 2025. Energy generated from the solar panels not only powers the exchange, but also feeds units back into the electricity grid.
Sure already has a solar array at its Centenary House headquarters and will be installing a second one as it continues to invest in reducing its carbon emissions and generating its own renewable energy.
Lucienne De La Mare, Human Resources Director and Chair of Sure’s Green Team, said: “At Sure, we recognise our responsibility to operate with sustainability and community in mind. Since 2021, we have reduced Sure’s carbon emissions by 27%, a figure which will continue to improve as we invest in generating our own solar power to feed our infrastructure.”
