The National Trust for Jersey has taken the difficult decision to cancel this weekend’s Sunset Concerts, because of predicted rain and blustery weather conditions.
The concerts are held ‘al fresco’ at the Trust’s site at Mont Grantez overlooking St Ouen’s Bay which affords little protection for attendees and performers in bad weather and high winds.
The 1700 plus attendees will receive a full refund, minus booking fees.
Organised by The National Trust for Jersey, supported in 2024 by the Jersey Opera House, the concerts are staged to raise money for the Trust’s Coastline campaign Coastline Campaign – National Trust for Jersey
Friday’s concert was to feature Sydney Haskins –the PwC Jersey Young Musician of the year in 2023. The Dawberts, a guitar-based trio from Guernsey and The Jersey Bounce – the well-known big band. Saturday’s concert was to feature Mêli-Mêlo, (meaning ‘mish-mash’ in Jerriais) a Jerriais band and the Jessica Lloyd band.
It is not anticipated that the Sunset Concerts will be rescheduled in 2024 but the Trust is staging a series of smaller musical events at the newly acquired Seaside Café at Grève de Lecq and is looking to work with the aforementioned bands at other opportunities during the summer.
Donna Le Marrec, Marketing and Events Manager for the Trust said: “It is such a shame to have to cancel the Sunset Concerts as so much goes into the planning and delivery of these events and we rarely if ever cancel activity. However, the weather is beyond our control, and it wouldn’t be pleasant for concert goers or the bands and technical teams if the weather is as predicted. We are sincerely sorry for any disappointment this will cause attendees”.
