St Helier’s Waterfront came alive last summer with lunchtime Tai Chi and Yoga sessions, alongside the popular after–work Hola Friday! DJ evenings, inspired by Ibiza vibes.
Organised by the Jersey Development Company (JDC), these events proved a hit with both locals and visitors. Owing to their popularity, JDC has announced the return of these vibrant community offerings – with ‘Hola Friday!’ now running for 12 weeks (up from nine), including two sessions set to feature international artists.
Building on last year’s success – and with sincere thanks to AquaSplash for hosting indoor sessions over the winter – JDC is bringing these wellness activities back outdoors. The Waterfront will once again be transformed into a hub of activity, relaxation, and social connection.
Wellness returns to Marina Gardens
Every Thursday from 5th June to 25th September, complimentary wellness sessions will resume on the lawn at Marina Gardens (above the Waterfront Car Park).
Tai Chi with Ray Molloy will begin at 12 noon, followed by Yoga with Joe Houze at 1 pm. Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for these free opportunities to focus on their health and wellbeing.
‘Hola Friday!’ back with a bigger line-up
Last year’s ‘Hola Friday!’ at the IFC’s Trenton Square proved hugely popular, drawing crowds eager to unwind and kick-start their weekends with chilled-out DJ sets. This year, the series will run for 12 weeks, from Friday 27th June to Friday 12th September (subject to Bailiff’s permission).
Each Friday from 5 pm to 7 pm, a line-up of local DJs will provide the perfect summer soundtrack. Light bites and refreshments from Cooper & Co and The Loft at Big Maggy’s will add to the relaxed, alfresco vibe.
International artists headline extended sessions
This summer will also see two special extended sessions, running from 5 pm to 8.30 pm, featuring headline performances from internationally renowned artists:
- Friday 15 August: JDC welcomes TribalNeed to Jersey for the first time, with thanks to co-sponsor Langham Hall. TribalNeed is at the forefront of progressive musicianship — performed by Riccardo Moretti who is internationally known for his experimental fusion of analogue synths, didgeridoo, percussion, hang drum, beatboxing, and loop station. His entirely live, computer-free performances offer an unforgettable approach to electronic music. TribalNeed is a must-see show.
- Friday 22 August: Jersey welcomes back Doctor Feelgood, the Ibiza favourite from Café Mambo and The House of Feelgood. After a standout success at last year’s Hola Friday!, he returns to bring Trenton Square to life once again. Both headline acts will include support sets by local DJ Craig Alder.
A Community-focused initiative
The success of these events reflects JDC’s placemaking strategy – actively programming and animating its public spaces to provide inclusive and engaging experiences for the community.
JDC CEO Lee Henry commented: “We were incredibly pleased with the turnout and feedback we had from last year. Our goal has always been to make the Waterfront a vibrant, inclusive space for everyone, and these events have truly brought that vision to life. The blend of wellness and social activities has really resonated with Islanders and visitors.”
