Cannon Asset Management Limited, the Guernsey office of the Stenham Cannon Group, has welcomed four local students for its first ever internship scheme.
The students worked at the company between May and September this year.
Robyn Palfrey, Megija Krasovsk, Melissa Dinis and Marco Costa are all from Guernsey and studying a range of subjects at university including Law and English Literature. They took part in the new scheme which ran over their extended summer break. The internship aimed to not only provide important work experience in the finance industry but it was created to be an opportunity to learn practical skills which will carry the students forward with confidence including organisational skills, strong social skills, and the ability to work effectively to deadlines.
Richard van Vliet, Group Managing Director, commented: “We were very excited to launch our new internship scheme and delighted by its success. Cannon’s home is Guernsey and we wanted to demonstrate our commitment to the Island and developing local talent. Robyn, Megija, Melissa, and Marco have had the opportunity to be immersed in our everyday workings whilst bringing with them energy, fresh perspectives and a great work ethic.”
Following the successful completion of the placements, Cannon has continued with the internship for those students who have now finished their studies and are interested in working within the finance industry, but are unsure which area they would like to pursue.
Cannon created opportunities for the students to rotate between areas including compliance, funds and trusts giving a more in-depth experience and help the students pursue a future career which fits them best.
Robyn Palfrey, currently studying at the University of Victoria in Canada, said on behalf of the group: “We were welcomed into the Cannon family and encouraged to form meaningful connections with our peers and truly welcomed into the Cannon community. Working together with our supervisors we were able to complete significant tasks for the company and we feel a huge sense of pride in our work. We know that the door is always open for us and hope to bring some expertise from our degrees back to Cannon each year.”
