Seven Islanders from Jersey have successfully completed a fundraising cycle in support of Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.
The islanders embarked on an impressive 410km journey from Saint-Malo to Paris over four days, raising £12,000 for the charity.
Macmillan Jersey is a local charity which offers free emotional and practical support to individuals and families affected by cancer. Based out of The Oasis at the Lido Medical Centre, the charity also offers a range of wellbeing services, including complimentary therapies, social support, diet and exercise advice and community activities.
Commenting on the initiative, Charles Molteno, Chief Executive and Island Head, from Standard Bank Jersey, said: “We are immensely proud of our fellow islanders’ accomplishment in completing this challenging fundraising cycle in support of Macmillan Jersey, including our colleague, Mike Jones.
“Despite several wrong turns which led to a couple of detours and very steep climbs, the dedication and teamwork displayed by the pack was truly inspiring. This event not only allowed them to test their individual limits but also strengthened their bond as a team, two values that resonate at Standard Bank.
“It was an honour to support this fundraising challenge with sponsorship, knowing that we were contributing to a cause close to the hearts of many here in Jersey.”
Mike Jones, challenge participant, said: “We’re very grateful to Standard Bank and our other sponsors for their kind donations towards this exceptionally worthy charity. We’ve built a great relationship with Macmillan Jersey through this fundraising challenge and can’t thank them enough for the support they give our community.”
Charles added: “Our colleagues will also be supporting another cycle challenge this Summer for global charity, Qhubeka, that moves people forward in Africa with bicycles, to improve their access to schools, clinics and jobs. We are proud of our global and local impact through the power of a bicycle.”
