Following August’s announcement that Jersey Development Company (JDC) has formed a partnership with the landscape architecture practice Gillespies to transform the southwest waterfront area of St Helier, a public consultation process on what islanders would like to see in the area has now commenced.
A consultation website has been launched which sets out the key stages of the project and introduces the design team. Gillespies were appointed following a comprehensive design competition launched by JDC in conjunction with the Design Council.
The design team are currently gathering technical information and are working towards a series of initial ideas which will be consulted on in the coming months.
The community are being asked what they think will make St Helier’s Waterfront a success – for them, their families and their friends. People are encouraged to visit the website and submit an email address or alternative contact details so JDC can keep them up to date as the design progresses.
JDC’s Managing Director, Lee Henry said: “We are calling on islanders to take this opportunity to play a vital role in shaping future proposals for the Waterfront. We have created a consultation website www.sthelierwaterfront.je with the latest project news and updates. We are really looking forward to start developing the framework and sharing initial ideas with the community over the coming weeks and months.”
