The final consultation on the future of Southwest St Helier Waterfront area is now underway.
Several public events are planned for the coming weeks with comments feeding into the final planning application due to be submitted in Autumn 2021.
The plans include a reimagined waterfront park with an outdoor lido and a new multifunctional plaza with scope for outdoor dining. A new cultural plaza will connect the Esplanade through to the Waterfront with an arthouse cinema, gallery space, artist studios, a new indoor swimming pool, gym, activities for children across all age ranges including a multipurpose indoor area for a bouldering/roller/ice rink and approximately 1000 new homes.
The latest designs incorporate comments from the community following the first two rounds of consultation and are now available to view on the consultation website and via four physical displays on the Waterfront from next Thursday (22nd).
The consultations have also revised the approach to height with plans to reduce building on two of the key opportunity sites to no more than eight stories. The height of the gateway building will also be reduced from 16 storeys to12 storeys.
Based on the consultations’ feedback and positive support from the community, the public realm concepts have been reviewed to expand the amount of leisure and play activities. The proposals also illustrate the potential for art and culture, enhanced public realm and open space ideas.
Islanders asked to see more detail, in response, 360-degree concept views have been developed for four key areas to provide a clearer idea of the scale and character proposed for the Southwest St Helier Waterfront.
