SandpiperCI has appointed Tony van der Hoorn as Chief Financial Officer and IT Director.
Tony van der Hoorn’s professional experience spans both hemispheres. His career started with KPMG in New Zealand where he qualified as a chartered accountant before being transferred to the UK management consulting practice. He has subsequently held senior financial positions in UK retail organisations such as Littlewoods, Iceland Stores and most recently Sainsbury’s Supermarkets where he was the Director of Corporate Finance. He has also been CFO for two of New Zealand’s largest retail businesses – Foodstuffs (food retail) and Farmlands (rural supplies).
Sandpiper’s CEO Tony O’Neill commented: “We are very pleased to welcome Tony van der Hoorn to Sandpiper. Tony has held a wide range of financial and operational leadership positions both here and abroad. He has an outstanding track record of managing financial and business operations for some very large organisations and we look forward to leveraging his expertise and experience as we continue to drive our retail business estate forward.”
Mr van der Hoorn added: “Sandpiper is a unique Channel Islands’ business and I am looking forward to working with the Sandpiper team to enhance the value of the company for all stakeholders and, in particular, to building on the success of the business in terms of the service it provides to its customers and the communities in which it operates.”
Mr van der Hoorn replaces Stephen Harrison, Sandpiper’s Group Finance Director, who will retire from his full-time role in June after 12 years’ service with the company, however he will remain on the board as a Non-Executive Director.
