The Saffery Rotary Walk 2020-2021 has extended its early bird discount until the end of March following the announcement that Guernsey is moving into stage one of its lockdown exit strategy.
“Even though registration numbers of local walkers are exceptionally high, we don’t want those who held off registering until we saw a relaxation of the lockdown rules to miss their chance to benefit from our discounted rates, so we have extended our early bird offer until the end of March,” said the Walk’s organising committee chair Simon Milsted.
“We see our Walk as an excellent opportunity to celebrate as a community what our Island offers us in terms of recreation and a sense of wellbeing within our own shores. The Walk is all about bringing the community together and collectively raising money for amazing local charities that not only do wonderful work in the Bailiwick but also need our support now more than ever. We want this to be our biggest and best event yet and, in the spirit of how we have come together to face the pandemic so far, get #GuernseyWalkingTogether,” added Simon.
The Walk is taking place on Saturday 5 June 2021 and will see hundreds of islanders take on the 39-mile round-island route individually or as part of a relay team. The early bird rate for individual walkers and relay teams was originally on offer until the end of January but are now available until the 31 March. Individual walkers can pay a discounted price of £20 (£25 after 31 March) and team registration is currently available for £105 (£140 after 31 March).
Lisa Vizia, director at sponsors Saffery Champness and member of the Walk’s organising committee, said, “We hope extending the discounted offer will encourage even more people to take on the Saffery Rotary Walk this year. Signing up and training for an epic community challenge like this could be the perfect thing to work towards as we come out of lockdown, as it can support our health and wellbeing as well as benefitting local charities”.
The Saffery Rotary Walk is one of the island’s largest charity fundraising events and has supported hundreds of charitable causes.
