Guernsey’s night-time economy safety charity, SafetyNet, will be distributing 4,500 DrinkSeals to the public free of charge thanks to funding from Bailiwick Law Enforcement.
DrinkSeals are an eco-friendly, portable reusable drink covers which seal around a glass with a small hole for a straw. The spiking prevention product is the brainchild of Adam Doyle, who came up with the concept while he was studying Business Management at university.
Adam said: “Since launching DrinkSeals at the start of 2022, we have helped nearly 15,000 people from all over the world stay safe when out drinking socially. Our driving force is the people that we keep safe from all kinds of harm and that is what will continue to motivate us in the future.
“It’s great to see organisations understanding there is a huge issue with drink spiking and are willing to put funding into helping solve the issue. Taking preventive action before the issue worsens enables the people of Guernsey to be one step ahead of the game when it comes to staying safer. We have worked with charities before but none to this scale.
“With a life of 5 years they are great for any individual who wants to ease the burden of worrying about being spiked. DrinkSeals are gender neutral, hygienic, discreet, and stylish. There are other uses of DrinkSeals too such as to stop spillages and when on holiday to stop bugs getting inside your drink.”
The first batch of DrinkSeals will be given out by SafetyNet at the Christmas Market in Town this evening, 21st December.
SafetyNet Secretary, Clare Arnold (pictured), said the DrinkSeals were an important step forward for the island: “We are excited to be a part of the late-night shopping event, where we can provide DrinkSeals free of charge in the busy night-time economy festive season. We would like to thank Guernsey Police for making this possible by generous funding the order and their ongoing support of our efforts to make nights out safer for everyone.”
