‘Run from Home’ challenge raises over £5,200 for St John Ambulance and Futuremakers

Standard Chartered Bank Jersey is delighted to announce that the Run from Home Challenge raised over £5,200 collectively for St John Ambulance, its chosen local charity for this year’s event, and Standard Chartered’s Futuremakers.

Additionally, the Bank donated an extra £4,000 to St John Ambulance to make up any shortfall in fundraising brought about by COVID-19.

The Jersey Marathon Trust and sponsors took the decision to cancel the 2020 Marathon in its usual format, in full support of the Government of Jersey’s health and welfare guidelines put in place. Undeterred by COVID-19, organisers with the support of Standard Chartered and other sponsors launched a new format to use the power of sport to bring the community together safely, fundraise and keep the event’s spirit alive.

The Run from Home challenge saw runners in their hundreds pound the streets, choosing their own route and distance to run, at their own convenience, during a two-week period. The fundraising and donation will help the volunteer-led organisation St John Ambulance, which is dedicated to the teaching and practice of first aid in Jersey, to continue offering support on the Island. The money raised supports Standard Chartered’s Futuremakers to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion for young people in our communities.

Futuremakers continues to be the official global beneficiary of the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon 2020. Participants were also able to raise valuable funds for other local charities.

Henry Baye, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Jersey, said: “Thank you and well done to everyone who took part in the Run from Home Challenge and helped raise vital funds. The coronavirus pandemic meant many of St John Ambulance’s training sessions and public duties were cancelled, resulting in a loss of income for the local charity. It’s fantastic news to hear we’ve raised a significant amount to support such worthy causes”.

Barry Marsden, CEO of St John Ambulance Jersey, said: “This kind and generous donation from Standard Chartered Jersey Bank will be used towards our running costs, knowing that when we emerge from this pandemic, we can continue our essential charitable work in providing first aid at public events across Jersey”.
