The 2020 edition of the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s ‘Rossborough Round the Island Race’ is open for entries. Scheduled for Sunday 9 August, this 45-mile race is open to all in the sports boat, cruiser/racer and sport catamaran classes.
Some 25 boats crewed by over one hundred competitors are expected to come to the line for an 8am start in St Aubin’s Bay. Once away, the fleet will head eastwards to the Violet Channel Buoy, on the south-east corner of the Island, and onwards for an anti-clockwise circumnavigation of the Island, returning to St Aubin’s Bay for the finish.
The leaders are expected to arrive by lunchtime, given a fair breeze. “We’re very proud to be sponsoring this long-standing and prestigious event for the fifth consecutive year. The well-established heritage of the race resonates with us because it dates back to around 1931 and Rossborough has also been serving the Island’s community for more than 80 years. We’re very much looking forward to another fantastic event”, said Rossborough Group Managing Director James Anderson.
Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club Commodore Richard Hall said: “This race is one of the most renowned in the Island’s racing calendar and we are delighted that it is able to go ahead this year given the tremendous challenges islanders have faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are truly grateful to Rossborough for their support that adds so much to the attraction and excitement of the event”.
There are trophies and prizes to be won in all classes. Boats racing in the cruiser/racer classes will be competing for the Club’s ancient and prestigious Jesse Boot and Cabot Memorial trophies.
For those intending to race, the notice of race and sailing instructions are available online here. Boats can enter by completing the online entry form here. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 31 July at 2pm.
