Political editor, broadcaster and journalist, Robert Peston, will provide a keynote address at the Jersey Finance private wealth conference in London in September.
The event will also feature an experienced group of UK based wealth management professionals who will pinpoint the opportunities and challenges facing the global private client industry, in 2023 and beyond, in two panel debates.
Mr Peston (pictured), host of flagship current affairs show ‘Peston’, started on television as an Economics Editor and prior to that as Business Editor where he reported on the tumult of the credit crunch and the global financial crisis. Prior to television, Robert was City and Assistant Editor at the Sunday Telegraph and he was the Financial Times’ Financial Editor. At the FT, he was a member of their editorial board, having also served as Political Editor, Banking Editor and founder of the investigations’ unit. A critically acclaimed author, his books include one on the relationship between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, while his novel ‘The Whistleblower’ is being developed into a tv series.
The Jersey Finance conference entitled ‘Strategies for a World in Transition’ will examine how high net worth individuals the world over can protect their wealth, plan for long term growth and ensure a successful transfer of their legacy and the debate will be discussed through the lens of the current complex geopolitical situation.
Referred to by some experts as a polycrisis in which multiple and often interconnected crises are happening simultaneously, the troubled global landscape will form the backdrop to this year’s conference themes.
Two panels have been invited to discuss ‘Political Risk in a Changing World: Implications for International Investors’ and ‘Balancing Legacy and Sustainability: The Dual Responsibility of Wealth Management.’ On each panel, participants will be UK based professionals spanning the industry sectors to provide a wide perspective.
The annual event will again be staged at The Brewery conference venue in central London and Joe Moynihan, chief executive officer, Jersey Finance, will introduce the programme and also deliver a keynote address. He commented: “Within a complex geopolitical background including war in Ukraine, supply chain issues, high inflation and a cost-of-living crisis, energy sector disruption, market volatility and increasing regulatory demands, we will showcase Jersey’s strengths as a leading international finance centre. We will highlight how our stability, resilience, innovation and attractive ecosystem of professional expertise, remains a robust platform to support the objectives of the private wealth industry during these volatile and uncertain times.
“I am thrilled that we have Robert Peston delivering a keynote presentation based on a hugely successful career in the front line of news broadcasting and print journalism, while I am delighted also that we have been able to attract many high calibre professionals to lead the discussions on the crucial issues that impact individual high net worth investors and their advisers. It should prove to be both a thought provoking and entertaining day for all those present.”
More than 400 delegates, the vast majority from London and the wider UK, are expected to attend the event, which is staged on Tuesday 26th September and will include a networking reception before and afterwards. Sponsors are Affinity Private Wealth, Carey Olsen, Crestbridge Family Office Services, Highvern, Investec Bank (Channel Islands) Ltd., Lloyds Bank International, Standard Chartered, Suntera Global, TMF Group, VG, Vistra and Walkers.
He added: “Whilst we continue to develop a distinctive presence for Jersey as a world class international finance centre on the international stage, we do not overlook London which remains a key market for many of our Members, with the City of London firmly positioned as the most prominent gateway to international business.’
