The residents at Jersey Cheshire Home are all set to complete their 40-day challenge in town this weekend in celebration of the Home’s 40th birthday.
The group will be clocking up their last few miles in Charing Cross on Saturday on their exercise bikes, rower and handbike whilst enjoying the opportunity to communicate to passers-by about the challenges they’ve taken on to help raise funds for a new wheelchair friendly car.
During the last 40 days the residents have been tackling their own individual challenges with the help of therapy staff in the Home’s gym and pool.
Jeff Ferguson, Occupational Therapist at Jersey Cheshire Home said: “We are really excited to be celebrating our 40 th anniversary this year and are thrilled that everyone has been getting involved and challenging themselves with a range of activities including cycling, walking in the gym, walking in the pool, swimming and rowing.
“So far we’ve raised £6,000 which is a great start to our fundraising and we hope that islanders will help us reach our £30,000 target to buy the specially adapted vehicle which will make a huge difference in helping our residents get out and about.”
The residents also helped notch up 40km last month when they got together and walked using specialist equipment up and down the road outside the Home and there are plans for further group challenges throughout the year.
