Groups of friends, families and work colleagues can now register for this year’s Guernsey Skipton Swimarathon.
Lane bookings are being taken on a first-come, first served basis for the highly popular charity event, which is taking place at Beau Sejour between 2 and 6 October this year.
The Skipton Swimarathon is organised jointly by the Guernsey Round Table and Lions Club of Guernsey, and supported by long-term sponsor, Skipton. This year’s charitable beneficiary is the GSPCA.
Between their teams of volunteers, the two clubs organise a mass swim relay at Beau Sejour for over 2,000 participants across the four-day event. Regular entrants include a team of Deputies, the BBC, lawyers, building firms, family groups and friends. It is recommended that teams of around eight people swim in relay for the hour-long allocated slot, ensuring no-one runs out of steam.
Guernsey’s schools are also highly supportive of the Skipton Swimarathon, with some classic belly flop and fancy-dress competitions having taken place over the years. And for many, it has become a family tradition, with groups looking forward to the fun and camaraderie that events like this bring.
The Skipton Swimarathon is very close to having raised over £2 million since inception in 1977, and it is hoped the Guernsey public will, once again, donate generously for another excellent cause.
