Following another successful year of charitable support, Ports of Jersey has donated £42,154 to a range of charities in 2019.
On Monday 3 February 2020, representatives from the four designated charities supported by Ports of Jersey, Caring Cooks of Jersey, Healing Waves, Jersey Alzheimer’s Association and Beresford Street Kitchen were invited to Jersey Airport for a reception and presentation of their cheques from funds raised on their behalf last year. The four charities were chosen by Ports of Jersey staff and the donations represent the contribution for the first year in their two year partnership.
Staff raised money for the charities throughout the year with raffles, dress down days and sponsorship for runners in the Jersey Marathon. Ports of Jersey also matched the charities’ own fundraising efforts, including the popular Runway Runs, a surf simulator in the Airport Departures Terminal and a beach clean.
The fund-raising activities form part of the company’s overall corporate social responsibility programme. As well as giving financial support to its four chosen charities, Ports of Jersey continues to support and raise funds for a number of national and island-wide fundraising events, including Children in Need, National Poppy Appeal and the local Christmas Appeal, as well as ad-hoc support to independent fundraisers.
Leanne Bass, CSR Development Manager at Ports of Jersey, commented: “At Ports of Jersey, corporate social responsibility plays an important role in many aspects of our activities. As a major Channel Islands business, we hold a prominent position in our community and are commited to making a positive difference in Island life. We look forward to continuing our support with the charities in 2020.”
In response, Georgie Dodd, Fundraising Manager at Beresford Street Kitchen, said: “Ports of Jersey has been a truly inspirational company to work with. On behalf of everyone at BSK we are delighted and truly grateful for the support they have given us throughout the year, especially for The Runway Run, which was humbling. Their efforts are reflected through the amazing amount of money raised.”
Caring Cooks of Jersey received £6,812. The charity empowers children and young people in the Island to grow, cook and eat healthy food, as well as give them the essential life skills and knowledge to lead healthy lives, both in childhood and as adults.
Healing Waves received £5,440. They aim to break down unnecessary barriers, enabling individuals living with conditions and/or disabilities, both neurological and physical, to access the ocean in a safe way. This is so they can participate in water sport activities, experiencing the therapeutic benefits that the ocean holds for everyone.
Jersey Alzheimer’s Association received £4,546. They seek to raise awareness and improve understanding of dementia throughout Jersey. By providing information and advice they seek to support anybody affected by dementia in whatever way.
Beresford Street Kitchen received £12,431. The charity is a social enterprise providing training and employment for people with learning disabilities and autism.
