The Polish Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Piotr Wilczek is visiting Jersey on Tuesday 26th April in what will be one of the first diplomatic trips of his term.
His Excellency was appointed in February this year, formerly serving as the Ambassador to the United States from 2016-2021.
The visit aims to enhance the strong bilateral relations between Jersey and Poland, and to strengthen business links between the two with the Ambassador and Embassy delegation attending a Jersey-Poland business roundtable as part of the programme.
The Ambassador’s visit will also be marked by meetings with Jersey Ministers, His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, and the Bailiff. He will also visit the Jersey Royal site and attend an unveiling of a plaque dedicated to Polish printer Zenon Świętosławski. There will also be a drinks reception with members of the Polish community to highlight the various benefits that Polish citizens have brought to Jersey and celebrate the strong links between us.
Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming His Excellency to Jersey. It is an important visit for the Island as we move to strengthen ties with our European partners. Jersey has a rich and vibrant Polish community which continues to make a vital contribution to the Island’s cultural and economic life.”
Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst, said: “Jersey and Poland have extremely strong ties and we have a firm commitment and warmth towards the Polish community. I am pleased that we will have the opportunity to introduce His Excellency to the Island and share the cultural benefits Polish citizens have brought to Jersey.”
Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the UK, His Excellency Professor Piotr Wilczek, said: “I am glad that one of my first visits outside of London since becoming Polish Ambassador to the UK in February will be to Jersey.
“Many Poles have chosen this beautiful island as their home. It is mainly thanks to the close links between our people that Poland and Jersey have been building strong relations, especially on an economic level. A Jersey-Poland business roundtable is the main purpose of my visit. I truly believe that a good and open dialogue between representatives of companies from both countries will lead us to deepen the successful cooperation.”
