As Phase 1 construction continues at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey, planning applications have been submitted for the Phase 2 development which, if approved, is due to start in 2024.
The Hospital Modernisation Programme has been developed in phases to minimise disruption on the site and will deliver the programme within a 7-year timeframe.
Preferred designs have now been selected for Phase 2 following extensive consultation with staff and other key stakeholders, including a public presentation at Beau Sejour on 15th October 2022.
This phase will include:
- A 3-floor extension built in the location of the current main entrance
- Significant refurbishment of existing spaces to update facilities and rearrange and improve the overall layout.
- A new main entrance linking all 3 levels making access to any area of the hospital easier.
Jan Coleman, Director of Hospital Modernisation said: “As I have said before, building a hospital is an extremely complex programme. Getting to this stage where we have submitted Phase 2 plans for approval is a significant milestone.
“I am extremely grateful to the staff from HSC and the MSG who have participated in many discussions and workshops that have resulted in the preferred design being identified.”
