Former Grammar Sixth Form student Caroline Carter has been awarded Praxis’ 2022 Bursary.
Caroline (pictured) has just completed her first term at Leeds University, where she is studying for a joint honours degree in philosophy and politics.
Each year one student is offered the opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience through Praxis’ annual Guernsey Bursary Award. Now in its fifth year, the paid scheme gives students the chance to explore the financial services industry and the wide range of roles available during their holiday periods.
Caroline plans to use her time at university to explore different career paths and subject areas, but with a current interest in sustainability, she hopes to use her time at Praxis to learn more about green finance and how this fits into the bigger sustainability picture.
Caroline said: “The bursary scheme is a great opportunity to gain practical work experience in a completely new field that I haven’t had much exposure to previously and that is not part of my degree. I’m eager to dive head-first into the world of finance, learning about economic practices, business management and developing soft skills which will help me in both my personal and professional life.
“I think having a clear understanding of the financial aspects of a business and being economically minded is valuable in any job or sector. I look forward to starting my first placement later in the year.”
Human Resources Business Partner, Grace Thoumine said: “Caroline is an excellent candidate for our bursary programme. She is an ambitious individual who will commit 100% to her work placement and bring the mindset and enthusiasm needed to get the most out of this opportunity.
Practical and relevant work experience is invaluable both for future employability and personal development, and the varied placements provided at Praxis will give Caroline the chance to explore a range of different business areas as well as learning new skills. We are really excited to provide this opportunity and look forward to welcoming Caroline this summer.”
