The team at Jacksons hope to step this year’s fundraising for the Mac100 up a gear and raise £10K for islanders affected by cancer.
This Summer’s big 100k cycling challenge, sponsored by Jacksons is all set for Sunday 20th August in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.
Last year the challenge raised £9,000 for islanders affected by cancer and this year they’d like to smash that and raise an extra grand – enough to pay the rent on The Oasis for three months.
The Oasis is the charity’s cancer support and wellbeing centre, a safe and welcoming space at the Lido Medical Centre. The charity has a team of trained Macmillan professionals and volunteers there to provide a listening ear, practical information and to help islanders with their wellbeing. They also offer activities such as yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi.
Last year the Mac100 saw more than 180 pedalling their way around the island for the charity and as in previous years, cyclists can use any bike they like, as long as it isn’t a fixed wheel, track bike or monocycle to cycle the tough route which involves 1,000m of climbing.
Meanwhile the team at Jacksons will be making sure everyone stays hydrated, manning water stops and handing out a Jacksons water bottle whilst the charity’s volunteers will be on hand to provide some snacks to fuel them on their way.
Commenting on the event, Andrew Searle, General Manager at Jacksons said: “We are delighted to be a part of the Mac100 for the third year running and to be supporting this fantastic local charity which provides such vital support and wellbeing services for those with cancer, their family and friends.
“Once again we’ll be donating the top prize in the raffle and are excited that this year the big prize will be a track day experience at Silverstone.”
All the money raised from the event will go directly to Macmillan Jersey, Steph Gibaut Chief Executive Officer said: “We’re really grateful to have the continued support of Jacksons and look forward to another great event this summer.”
