Local man Olly Spry will take on a unique challenge on the eve of the Summer Solstice as he plays as many holes as possible at Jersey’s La Moye golf course.
Starting at dawn (04:30am) on June 20, he will attempt to complete the 18 holes as many times as possible during daylight while raising funds for Cancer Research UK Jersey.
The endurance feat will be made extra challenging as Olly accepts sponsorship in return for hitting the ball with interesting implements, or dressing up – within reason.
His aim is to raise as much money and awareness of the fundamental work that CRUK is doing, and how Jersey is contributing.
Speaking about challenge, Olly said: “It’s a slightly crazy event and will only be made more challenging with people giving me wacky props to hit the ball with or getting me to dress up on the way round.
“Underneath all of it though, there is a cause which is close to my heart and I know that it will help keep me powering me through when the going gets tough, and then quite likely tougher!”
After witnessing first-hand the pain, determination, and resilience of people around him through cancer treatment, Olly was stirred into action and create a small difference.
Over the last 50 years, Cancer Research UK’s work has helped double cancer survival in the UK but we need to go further, faster.
Olly is inviting people to come along on the day to support him, even if it’s just to carry the clubs. “I’m not sure if I’ve fully appreciated the physical side of the challenge yet so the more help I can get the better!” he said.
“This is an opportunity for the people and prominent companies in Jersey to come together behind a cause which affects one in two islanders.
“I want to do everything I can to support their mission to beat cancer for good.’
