Raj Bell, from Oak Group (Oak), the private client, corporate services and fund administration business, has been appointed to the Isle of Man External Body Committee, Corporate Governance Committee and as Student Diversity and Inclusivity Representative for the Student Committee.
The Committee looks to promote the Global Compliance Institute (GCI) qualification and enhance its student uptake and membership. The Student Committee is aiming to diversify its membership and appeal to a younger audience; often school leavers who do not favour attending university may be unaware of the alternative routes and qualification options that can provide the first steps on the road to a fulfilling career.
Raj will serve as representative of Oak’s staff members in the Group’s committee to further advance the company’s vision and values in supporting staff’s professional and personal development, as well as to promote Oak through networking and engagement between the various financial sectors.
In her role as Student Diversity and Inclusivity Representative, Raj will look at ways to encourage D&I in memberships including age, disability, gender, race, mental health, and socio-economic, as well as strategies to make professional courses more accessible to students who are self-funding and to increase the number of Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) students on the Island.
Raj currently serves as Client Account Bookkeeper at Oak Isle of Man, where she oversees client’s financial data and compliance, working closely with trustees and the accounting team in the company’s operations on the island.
Tanya O’Carroll, Oak Isle of Man Managing Director, told Channel Eye: “I am very pleased that Raj has joined this important committee for the Isle of Man. As an active member, she will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills that will support her development. Raj’s experience and natural enthusiasm will support the work that the committee is pursuing and strengthen Oak’s commitment to talent development and improving Diversity and Inclusion within the industry.”
Commenting on the appointment, Raj added: “Joining the committee is an honour and has helped build my self-confidence and enriched my career experience. Being an active member of these prestigious committees provides a new professional perspective which allows me to support my studies both within the work environment and outside when engaging with business professionals”.
