The Range, the UK-based home and leisure store, plans to convert the Jersey Motor Mall site.
The Range (Jersey) Ltd has submitted a planning application to change the use of Jacksons’ Motor Mall site at La Grande Route de St Jean from a retail car sales workshop and forecourt to a non-food retail site.
The Range opened their first store in 1989 on Billacombe Road, Plymouth and now operates from more than 170 stores nationwide. It is currently one of the fastest growing home and leisure retailers in the UK, specialising in homeware, furniture, DIY and art supplies.
The proposed change of use will allow Jacksons to consolidate all of its vehicle sales and servicing to its Route de la Reine Elizabeth II site at St Peter.
A spokesman from the company said: “Jersey is a market we’ve been looking at for some time and we’re very excited to be submitting this Planning Application. Our ethos has always been to bring our customers great quality products at the most competitive prices, drawing together everything needed to create beautiful homes.”
Subject to planning approval, The Range will upgrade the Motor Mall site to cater for its wide choice of home and leisure products. The planning application also highlights road-widening improvements to create a feeder lane with safer site access and exit points, wider pavements and the installation of a new bus shelter.
The Range is estimating the creation of more than 50 new job roles if the application is approved. Jacksons has confirmed there will be no redundancies resulting from its own business consolidation proposals.
