Carey Olsen has announced changes to its executive leadership team, with effect from 1st July 2024.
Current group managing partner Alex Ohlsson, who has led the firm’s international expansion, is to become Group Chairman. He will succeed John Kelleher, a key player in the success of the firm, who has served more than 12 years in the role and will remain at Carey Olsen as a partner in the Jersey Litigation team.
The new group managing partners will be Bermuda-based Michael Hanson and Jersey-based Simon Marks (pictured).
Alex Ohlsson said: “On behalf of the partnership, I would like to thank John for his commitment, professionalism and wise counsel as chairman. He leaves an admirable legacy that I will work hard to continue.
“Carey Olsen is at an exciting point in its 125-year history and the expansion of our leadership team will help to achieve our significant ambitions for the firm. In just six years, Michael has built Carey Olsen Bermuda into a market-leading firm, achieving widespread industry recognition.
“Simon holds board-level responsibility for Carey Olsen’s people and talent strategy and has been instrumental in driving the firm’s success. I look forward to continuing to work with both Michael and Simon. They are excellent leaders and will play key roles in shaping the future of the firm.”
Simon Marks is also being appointed as Jersey managing partner. Michael Hanson will continue in his role as Bermuda managing partner with Gavin Woods being appointed as deputy managing partner. In the Cayman Islands, Sam Dawson is being appointed as managing partner with Bernadette Carey as deputy managing partner.
