The Medical Specialist Group has invested £15,000 into its audiology service with upgrades to its onsite testing room.
The room has been designed to meet ASTM (The America Society for Testing and Materials) standards with an IAC Acoustics-manufactured acoustic celling, silenced aircon, a new double door and lighting fittings for optimal testing conditions. So that nothing interferes with equipment used in auditory brainstem testing for babies, the room also has radiofrequency radiation (RF) shielding for mobile phones.
MSG Audiologist Dr Lawrence Hill (pictured) said: “Given the sensitive conditions required when testing someone’s hearing, it’s really important to have a facility that has the necessary acoustic environment for accurate and controlled results. Background noises, whether that’s from the bustle of people talking and moving outside of the room or as subtle as the buzz from a light filament, can be a distraction for patients.”
MSG’s audiology room is the only place in the Bailiwick which has the capability to test both adult and paediatric patients, with testing equipment for babies, children and adults. Dr Hill is also the only specialist audiologist with training in tinnitus, balance and paediatrics in the Bailiwick.
Jon Buckland, CEO of the MSG said: “We’re proud to invest in our services so that we can continue to provide the highest standards of clinical care and the best possible outcomes, justifying the trust our patients place in us. Our audiology service is one of a kind locally and we think it’s important that our testing facility upholds this accolade.”
