Mourant, a law firm-led professional services business, is once again partnering with Ocean Culture Life, joining the ocean conservation awareness charity to celebrate World Ocean Month in June 2023.
During World Ocean Month, Ocean Culture Life and Mourant will be hosting various events around Jersey in order to shine a light on local ocean culture. The activities include an island-wide month-long photography exhibition showcasing local and international stories, school workshops during 6-8 June, and an all-day beach event including yoga, a guided beach clean, a guided sea swim and workshops with local experts.
The school workshops aim to inspire and teach young people about the significance of the oceans, giving children the chance to celebrate Jersey’s local ocean culture as part of the World Ocean Day celebrations.
The workshops aim to improve ocean literacy, local marine conservation knowledge and celebrate life below water.
Daniel Birtwistle, Mourant Jersey Managing Partner, said: “We are delighted to partner with Ocean Culture Life for a second year running, and look forward to working closely with the OCL team to build on the success of last year’s activities, in what promises to be the largest celebration of World Ocean Day to date in Jersey.
“Alongside our Mourant Ocean Pledge, this partnership with OCL strengthens our firm’s focus on environmental sustainability, including recognising the critical role the ocean plays in our lives and the importance of protecting it. Living on an island, we all have a responsibility to preserve the future health of our ocean and I’m proud that Mourant supports this important initiative.”
Tamsin Raine, OCL Co-Founder and Event Organiser, said: “It’s refreshing to be partnering with Mourant who have been involved each and every step of the way to bring Jersey’s World Ocean Day celebrations to life. We’ve also been working behind the scenes with the firm’s Environment and Sustainability Employee-led Network to develop their Ocean Pledge which demonstrates their commitment not only on World Ocean Day but in the months and years ahead.”
