Mourant has announced its sole sponsorship of the relay race at the new Guernsey Marathon, securing the event for the next three years.
The marathon will take place on Sunday 29 March along a primarily coastal route of 26.2 miles, with the Mourant relay covering the same distance in teams of either two or five runners. The relay legs range from four to 13 miles.
The relay will provide an inclusive opportunity for people to participate as part of a team in the experience of a marathon, without having to run the full distance. The newly designed course will start and finish in the Marathon Village at Castle Pier in St Peter Port, where runners and spectators will congregate to support their team members, and cheer them over the finish line.
Mourant Guernsey office managing partner, Matthew Guthrie, said: “We’re really excited to partner with the Guernsey Marathon to bring back a relay race for the next three years, as it’s a key event in the island’s sporting calendar that truly offers something for everyone. It’s important to us to partner with events that align with our values, and this sponsorship is underpinned by our core focus on wellbeing and inclusivity.
“The relay race represents the importance of community, inclusivity and team spirit, bringing individuals with all levels of experience together to compete and feel equally empowered to reach their full potential. It will also support a number of very well deserving charities in our community. We’re looking forward to a great race atmosphere and seeing many new and familiar faces running on the day!”
There are a number of different corporate cups up for grabs, including Accountancy, Trusts, Banking, Investments, States of Guernsey, and the Law Cup which is also sponsored by Mourant.
3D Events’ managing director and Guernsey Marathon event director, Andrew Thomas, said: “We are delighted to be able to partner with Mourant on this exciting new marathon relay race in Guernsey. Our aim is to develop a professional and high-profile sporting event for runners, of all abilities in Guernsey, and with it significantly grow participation levels, both on and off island, over the next few years.
“The relay race is central to these aims and the support of Mourant will be hugely important in the continued development of this team community event. Our plans are progressing well, and so we now very much look forward to welcoming hundreds of runners, of all abilities, to the first Mourant relay race on 29 March.”
