Global offshore law firm, Mourant, has appointed Matthew Guthrie as its new Guernsey office managing partner and a member of the firm’s Management Committee.
The appointment follows the news that Jessica Roland will retire from the firm’s partnership in 2020 to become Guernsey’s next Deputy Bailiff.
Matthew has been a partner of the firm since 2015 and leads the successful International Trust and Private Client practice in Guernsey.
Mourant Global Managing Partner, Jonathan Rigby, said: “Matthew will bring a valuable perspective to the Office Managing Partner role in Guernsey. He has an impressive track record of building strong, trusted relationships through collaboration with clients and colleagues, and combines this with an astute understanding of how the world they operate in is changing.
“We’re an ambitious firm, focused on a clear strategy of being the leading business in our markets. Matthew’s ability to think globally, and to bring both internal and external perspectives to the table as we continue to grow, will be invaluable.”
Matthew is listed as a leading practitioner by all of the main legal directories and praised by clients as “a very skilled lawyer, hugely creative and asks the right questions” (Chambers and Partners, 2019) and “a brilliant technician and thoroughly nice person” (Chambers High Net Worth, 2019).
