More than 1,000 local children have honed their football skills thanks to the Guernsey Football Association’s Deloitte community programme and the Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield sponsorship.
Over the past academic year, the Deloitte community programme has provided in-school football-based training sessions. Through this collaboration with the Guernsey Football Association (GFA), over 400 hours of football coaching has been delivered across every primary school and four States-run secondary schools on the island, helping to keep over 1,000 children active.
The Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield resumed this September, with the nine-month long tournament resulting in the finals taking place in May 2024. The under-12 tournament has 14 teams playing against each other overall.
Joelle Pengelley, Football Development Officer for Women and Girls at the GFA said: “We’re delighted to have reached so many school children throughout the year thanks to our community partners, Deloitte.
“Thanks to Deloitte’s continued support, the GFA will be delivering the same programme of activity once again this year. We’re grateful to be able to continue encouraging local children to partake in sport, stay active and enjoy football.’
GFA Chief Executive, Gary Roberts, added: “The Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield is a favourite tournament for under 12s in Guernsey, and we’re grateful for Deloitte’s support. The work being done both in schools to support physical literacy and through the Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield are invaluable in supporting the next generation of footballers.”
Partner at Deloitte, David Becker, said: “We’re proud to support the GFA across a variety of their programmes. Reaching so many local children is a great achievement and we are pleased to be a part. I’m looking forward to seeing the continuation of the primary schools programme this year and the Corbet Cup and Shield as it reaches the finals in May.”
