A new consultant anaesthetist with nearly 15 years’ experience has joined the Medical Specialist Group.
Dr Clare Conroy (pictured) completed studies in microbiology and biotechnology before studying medicine at Barts & The Royal London in 2002.
During her anaesthetic training, she completed advanced training in obstetric anaesthesia and spent time in intensive care supporting critically ill patients during the Covid pandemic. In 2021, she took up a position as substantive consultant with a special interest in obstetric anaesthesia.
She was appointed anaesthetic clinical lead for trauma surgery at Wexham Park Hospital in 2023, helping improve care for patients with fractured femurs, and implementing teaching for surgical juniors.
Dr Conroy said: “Anaesthesia can often be the most frightening part of an operation for a patient, and it is my job to build a rapport, support the patient and allay their fears, and to care for them from the first interaction in the pre-assessment clinic to the recovery room.
“My job is so varied and each patient is so different, from a patient who has had multiple surgeries to a child who is having their first operation.”
Directorate chair of anaesthesia, Dr Michelle Le Cheminant, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Clare to the MSG. She brings a wealth of experience in anaesthesia for obstetrics, emergency surgery and trauma, as well as an interest in medical education. I’ve no doubt that her skillset will be a valuable addition to the department.”
