Five consultants have joined the Medical Specialist Group partnership.

The new partners are made up of anaesthetist Dr Stefan Andersson and two husband and wife teams – anaesthetists Dr Nick Crabtree and Dr Claire Frampton, and paediatrician Dr Gopinath Rao and obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Kalaivani Ramalingam.

All five consultants joined the MSG between 2020 and 2022.

MSG chairman Dr Steve Evans said: “I am very proud to welcome five new fantastic consultants to the partnership. It is a testament to their dedication to the medical profession and their commitment to improving the island’s healthcare system and patient care. I am confident their contribution to the partnership will be extremely valuable.”

Dr Stefan Andersson joined the MSG in 2021, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge in paediatric anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. He has a strong interest in global health and education.

He said: “I’m looking forward to being able to further contribute towards the development of services for my local community, which I am so honoured to be part of. Becoming a partner of the MSG, I believe will enable me to achieve this, in collaboration with my colleagues.”

Dr Nick Crabtree spent time working in the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals in Oxford before joining the MSG in 2022 in a job share with his wife, Dr Claire Frampton. He is also a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Oxford and is on the specialist register of the General Medical Council for Anaesthesia.

He explained: “A significant part of being a doctor is having a passion for patient care. Being invited to join the partnership means I can contribute more closely to the development of healthcare in the Bailiwick and, in turn, improve and enhance the patient experience. It is also a step toward feeling even more integrated with the MSG team, which I am very grateful for.”

Dr Claire Frampton, a specialist in pain medicine, was the joint clinical lead for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust from 2016 before joining the MSG in 2022.

She said she is dedicated to providing first-class care to all her patients in Guernsey: “The MSG team are incredibly supportive, and we all learn from one another, which makes this such a wonderful place to work. I am incredibly pleased to have been invited to the partnership and look forward to a lengthy and rewarding career supporting patients post-surgery and those with chronic pain conditions.”

Dr Kalaivani Ramalingam has worked around the world, specialising in high-risk pregnancy and pelvic floor surgery. Since joining the MSG in 2020 with her husband Dr Gopinath Rao, she has been working to improve the quality of life for people with gynaecological issues and pelvic floor problems.

She said: “Since starting at the MSG I have learned so much from my colleagues and have been able to share my expertise with them too. I am optimistic about the future of the MSG and look forward to further expanding my knowledge in the obstetrics and gynaecological field. I am pleased to now have more of a stake in how the MSG provides its services, and to be an overall part of making healthcare better in the Bailiwick.”

Dr Gopinath Rao has more than 20 years’ experience in paediatrics and a particular interest in newborn care and newborn feeding issues including management of tongue tie in babies.

He said: “Working with children is extremely rewarding. Having had the opportunity to train at King’s College London with subspeciality training in newborn care, I find the skills I have gained very useful in Guernsey. It has been a positive experience working at the MSG.”
