LV Care Group has appointed Colette Bonner to lead the Dementia wing at St Josephs and act as the dedicated dementia champion and clinical lead for the group.
Colette (shown in main picture) is a highly experienced nurse manager with over 35 years senior nursing experience across Jersey, the UK and Europe. Prior to joining LV, Colette was a manager of two Jersey care homes which specialise in dementia care. She also held senior roles in the UK including spending 17 years working in Europe with the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Colette has significant knowledge and experience of the Gold Standards Framework in palliative care, but specifically dementia care and team management, and, along with obtaining her master’s degree in Dementia, she previously trained for the Caring Homes Group accredited City and Guilds dementia care programme ‘Living in my world.’
In the newly formed role within the LV Care Group, Colette will lead the dementia unit at St Joseph’s Residential and Nursing Home. She will also provide the LV senior management team with expert advice, inputting on strategies and policy around LV Group’s dementia care strategy which includes the future development of a dedicated and innovative Dementia village in Jersey – the first of its kind in the Channel Islands.
Colette commented on the role: “I am looking forward to working with the highly skilled multidisciplinary team already in place at LV to enhance their skill set in dementia care and to work together to raise the standards and accessibility of this type of care in Jersey. My primary focus will be on providing compassionate care, connections and settings that give dementia residents a life that is personalised, meaningful and enriched by choices within a safe environment that enables discreet provision for the more able, through to full nursing as frailty progresses”.
Nick Bettany, CEO & Co-founder of LV Care Group, commented on the appointment: “Colette will be integral to the conceptualisation and realisation of our ambitious Dementia Village plans which will revolutionise and enhance dementia care on the Island. As our dedicated LV dementia champion and clinician, she will bolster existing support in this growing area of need locally to ensure patients can access the right care when they need it and enhance the lives of those living with the condition”.
