The Jersey Island Walk, sponsored by TMF, takes place Saturday, 18th of June and our coastline will be teeming with hundreds of walkers circumnavigating Jersey.
It’s the Island’s greatest charity challenge, with over a thousand people walking the 48 miles, supported by an army of community volunteers. Every penny raised by walkers goes directly to the chosen charities, with all the organisation carried out by volunteers, and costs for the event paid for by sponsors, TMF Group.
In addition to the main individual challenge, there is the family-friendly Lieutenant Governor’s Challenge, which this year covers the 13 miles from Les Fontaines to Le Braye and is the last time that Air Chief Marshall, Sir Stephen Dalton will lead the walk. Teams can also take part in a relay event around the island.
Walkers are being encouraged to target the tonne and secure £100 in donations each. This year the charities benefitting are: Age Concern Jersey, Centrepoint, JSPCA, Autism Jersey, Durrell, Freedom Church, Jersey National Park, Trees for Life, and Milli’s Separated Family Centre. Girl-guiding Jersey, the States of Jersey Ambulance Service, and the 10th Jersey (St Brelade) Scout Group, will also all receive smaller donations in thanks for their help with the running and operation of the walks.
With the weather set to still be hot, walkers are being urged to ensure they stay well hydrated and cover up in the sun.
Tim Houghton, Market Head – Channel Islands, for TMF Group said: “There is a small army of volunteers ensuring that the Island Walk is a big success for both the walkers and the charities. While events like this couldn’t take place without sponsors like us, they equally couldn’t happen without the dedication of all the volunteers. TMF Group are incredibly proud that we are able to play our part in supporting the Island Walk, and myself and many of our employees will either be undertaking the walk, or helping at the finish line as we all pull together to raise funds for those more needy members in our island.”
In addition to their sponsorship, TMF Group are also going to pay an additional £3 for every walker on the main course, who finishes wearing the official Island Walk t-shirt, and £2 for everyone who completes the Lieutenant Governor’s walk.
Participants are being encouraged to post their photos on Instagram using the official #islandwalkjsy hashtag, and can win one of six, £100 walking and lifestyle store voucher from Hapi.
