Since its launch six months ago, Guernsey-based skincare brand Maiiro has won two global awards and been named as a finalist for a further four accolades.
The exclusive skincare collection harnesses the powers of seaweed to help skin look and feel better, using natural ingredients including its signature compound, Kelpogen5™.
From inception, Maiiro set out to become an industry leader in sustainability, recyclability and supporting the environment by reducing the use of plastics where possible. The brand has always been transparent in terms of the ingredients and packaging it uses, and the company’s hard work is being recognised.
In February 2020 Maiiro won its first global award, FMCG Content Campaign of the Year, at the inaugural European Campaign Awards, for its Pack of Lies advertising campaign.
The campaign highlights the use of plastic in the beauty industry and the greenwashing by major players, encouraging more transparency about the products and packaging that the skincare industry produces, with its main focus on the use of plastic.
This month, Maiiro won the Editor’s Brand Choice award at the Beauty Shortlist Awards for its Anti-Ageing Cream, Anti-Blemish Cream and Organic Soap products. The awards, known for their objectivity, transparency and ethical focus, are open to 39 countries and saw Maiiro named amongst some high-profile brands.
Maiiro was also named as a finalist in the Sustainable Packaging category at the Global Sustainable Beauty Awards and was among big brands such as Aveda Corporation and Henkel.
Later this year, the Maiiro team will attend the Pure Beauty Global Awards where the brand is a finalist for three awards:
- Best New Premium Skincare Product – Maiiro Anti-Blemish Cream
- Best New Bath and Shower Product – Maiiro Organic Soap
- Best New Sustainable Skin and Body Product – Maiiro Organic Lip Salve
The awards, which will take place virtually later this year, acknowledge the best in beauty, with a focus on the most exciting and innovative products that have launched over the past 12 months. The judges include leading industry experts, buyers and beauty retail professionals.
Katy Rowe, Maiiro founder, says: “It’s been an incredible six months, to have won two global awards in such a short time is amazing. We’re extremely passionate about how we can help be a part of the solution to the plastic problem, which is why we wanted to highlight the issue alongside our launch.
‘It’s fantastic to have our campaign recognised on a global level, the problem is much bigger than any individual brand or product but we hope this encourages other brands to consider the environment first.
‘We’re also delighted that our products have received recognition, winning the Editor’s Brand Choice award, and we’re looking forward to the Pure Beauty Global Awards later this year. To be among such high-profile brands is astounding, given we only launched recently.
“We’re excited to be entering the next phase of Maiiro, with our next batch being made with Guernsey organically accredited seaweed, something I’ve worked so hard to achieve. I’m incredibly proud of the brand we’ve created and I’m looking forward to the future.”
