Little Green Energy Company commends Guernsey’s zero-rating of standby charge for solar PV installations
Share on LinkedInTwitterFacebookEmail

The Little Green Energy Company has commended the recent decision by government to zero-rate the Standby Charge for all solar photovoltaic installations in Guernsey.

The decision marks a significant stride towards embracing renewable energy and fostering a more sustainable future for the island.

The zero-rating of the Standby Charge reflects Guernsey’s commitment to promoting clean energy and reducing carbon emissions. Little Green hails this initiative and believes it will encourage more land and property owners to adopt solar PV systems.

Bob Beebe, CEO of Little Green, commented: “This decision is a testament to Guernsey’s dedication to sustainability and its recognition of the importance of renewable energy sources in the energy transition and journey to net zero.

“By reducing the Standby Charge to zero, the States of Guernsey has not only made solar PV installations more accessible but has also empowered more individuals and businesses to contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.”

The Standby Charge, previously levied on solar PV installations above a certain size, presented a barrier to the widespread, large-scale adoption of renewable energy generation in Guernsey. Reducing the charge to zero improves payback cycles for those looking to invest in self-generation. The decision also aligns with Guernsey’s Electricity Strategy and its transition to a low-carbon future.
