When the request came late last Monday evening asking Guernsey-based Managing Director Tim Guilbert if he could provide a lightning protection system on the new Nightingale Hospital in Jersey, he was determined to take up the challenge.
Overnight on Monday the team carried out the Risk Assessment, completed design drawings and quoted all for submission at a 9am meeting Tuesday. By 12 o’ clock Saturday this system was fully certified and operational on the Nightingale Hospital in Jersey and, quite understandably, the team are proud to have achieved this.
Tim wanted to acknowledge how many aspects and people were involved in the Nightingale Hospital project, as it just highlights how collaborative projects can be:
“By 10am last Tuesday morning we had got the go ahead from the project team, we had contacted our supplier in the UK in advance, they had agreed to go to their warehouse, specially package what we needed and take it to one of their homes, DHL in Jersey confirmed they were able to collect the goods from there that day and deliver them in Jersey before the Thursday morning, amazing service.
“Travel and entry to Jersey and Guernsey being restricted meant a whole heap of paperwork and arranging, but Condor were brilliant and agreed to take me down to Jersey with a van full of equipment, something that involved getting permission from the Bahamas, but again undertaken swiftly and professionally. Customs and Immigration on both islands also had lots to do and they too were quick and efficient and the calls I received from their staff came with a really helpful tone and content. Really positive feedback for Customs in both islands.
“It was arranged I would travel back with the Channel Chieftain team from Iris freight and these guys were brilliant, Dave the Captain made me feel very at home on board whilst still maintaining all the social distancing keeping masked up etc and the time soon passed until I was home again.
“Finally, to the team on site, everyone was just great, working together in tight timescales and with lots of different pressures all whilst maintaining not only a control for the distancing and other precautionary requirements but a sense of humour too! Special thanks to Steen and his team at B&G who worked with me during my visit and the Geomarine boys for their groundwork efforts.
“My point here is simply, we never face something alone, we are in it together and this small little example just proves how good it can be when people work together for a common goal. Long may that continue!”
