JGA has been shortlisted for a Guernsey Design Award in the Small Projects (up to £250k) category.
The project is a slightly unusual one, in that it’s their own JGA design studio. So as both the client and architect, they were able to use their expertise and experience to create the perfect space.
The premises at Cobo had previously been used as storage by a local building contractor, so it really was a blank canvas.
Their aim was to create an industrial, loft-style look with exposed beams, reclaimed brick tile feature walls and look which sat well within the existing building. Designed over two floors, the architectural studio includes an open plan working area on the first level, for production and internal design meetings. On the ground floor is a drop-in meeting space, sample area, reception, and a large board room.
“It was a thoroughly enjoyable conversion project, carried out with sensitivity and attention to detail by building contractors M&R Construction,” said James Gavey, founder/ director at JGA.
“We are delighted to be in the final three in the Small Projects category, it’s always a good feeling to have your work recognised in this way. The Guernsey Design Awards recognises the very best within the industry and it’s an honour to have our names up there alongside other talented architects in Guernsey.”
The conversion project was completed in June 2020. The main picture shows the completed conversion. The picture below shows the space during development.
