The Jersey Young Enterprise companies are being kindly supported by the local retail community, as momentum for the Charity Auction Task grows for the two lots the students will have at the 16th December 2020 Simon Drieu online auction.
Eamon Fenlon, Chairman of the Jersey Young Enterprise Board said: “We are all being swept up by the enthusiasm shown by the fantastic 6th form students who, despite isolation, lock downs and general student pressures, rallied together to purchase a fantastic selection of items at Acorn on Saturday 28th November, which they will upcycle and promote.
The Jersey Young Enterprise Board have secured the invaluable support from local retail experts who have provided valuations pre-upcycling activity by the student teams:

Hannah Samson – Head of Social Media for the Charity commented: “We have started our social media campaign and hope that the whole community gets behind the initiative and supports our ‘studentpreneurs’. We look forward to seeing social media posts by Team Aurora and by Team Exempt as they seek to promote their finished products”.
The Charity Auction Task which involves students using a budget to buy goods at Acorn which they will then upcycle and promote has been introduced because the student access to traditional sales channels is limited due to COVID restrictions. The teams will have one lot each in the 16th December 2020 Simon Drieu hosted online auction.
Lorie Rault Head of Retail at Jersey Business said: “Following the request from Jersey Young Enterprise for help from the retail sector, we are delighted to confirm that have three fantastic business offering assistance for the Charity Auction project. Some of the items the student teams have selected are not the traditional item types for upcycling projects! With the support of our local retail sector experts we are really looking forward to seeing the end results”.
Pat Robson BEM, Chair of Art in the Frame and Managing Director of The Harbour Gallery said: “I have a personal passion for up-cycling, and have created many projects for my own home sourced from Acorn. With huge scope for creativity by the students, I am really looking forward to seeing what they come up with”.
Ginny Moss, of I.D.ology based at David Hick Interiors who has the City & Guilds accreditation for Decorative Techniques and Creative Design, provided the follow advice to the students: “To get the best prices it is very important that preparation is well done; it is good to show pieces in a room scheme – customers need to imagine how the pieces would fit in their homes; and to get the best prices the event will need to be promoted”.
