The Jersey Covid Alert App, which has been designed by the Government, has launched today to support existing public health measures.
Digital Jersey worked closely with NearForm to develop the app, which will support the work of the Contact Tracing Team and act as another layer of protection for Islanders.
The studies show effectiveness can start from as little as 15% population uptake, which is Digital Jersey is keen to encourage its members to use it.
Digital Jersey’s CEO, Tony Moretta says: “The app does not track your location in any way but uses Bluetooth to record the anonymous IDs of devices you come into contact with. It does not need any form of personal data from users to set up which protects anonymity and confidentiality. As a close-knit community we are encouraging as many people as possible to download the app to protect their colleagues, their family and their community.”
Check out some of the key facts about the app:
- The app uses Bluetooth to detect other app users nearby. The exposure alerts are only generated when the app detects you have been near another app user who has recently been diagnosed with COVID.
- The app does not know your identity or the identity of the people you meet – it’s completely anonymous.
- The bare minimum of data is used and nothing is retained by the app. In fact, data more than 14 days old is automatically deleted from the app.
- If you get an alert, you’re advised to talk to the Contact Tracing Team who will decide if you should get a test and/or isolate.
- You can request a call from the Contact Tracing Team should you get an exposure alert, by storing your mobile phone number in the app. Your number is only shared with the Team if you get an alert, otherwise it stays securely on your phone.
- If you get COVID-19, the Contact Tracing Team will help you send the anonymous alerts that will allow others to take action to protect themselves, their friends and family.
- You can download the app for free on iPhone 6s and above and Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and above.
The more people that use the app, the more effective it will become, so if you can download it, you will be doing your bit to help contain outbreaks in Jersey.
