The Government Plan and Brexit will be under the spotlight as the Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, takes to the stage at the next IoD Jersey Leader’s Lunch on 21 November 2019.
The current backdrop of national political uncertainty is likely to set the tone for the Institute of Directors lunch, which has been kindly sponsored by the Aztec Group and will be held at the Grand Hotel. The proposed Government Plan 2020-23, which proposes increased spending, but also £100 million worth of efficiencies over four years, will be scrutinised. The Chief Minister will also talk about the latest plans for Brexit and the potential impact on Jersey. Finally, he will update the audience of business leaders on how Jersey is being promoted on an international scale amidst a time of global political change.
After his presentation, Senator Le Fondré will be taking questions from the audience. IoD Members are invited to submit questions in advance by emailing IoD Jersey Branch Officer Zoe Wauton: [email protected]
John Le Fondré was first elected as Deputy of St. Lawrence and sworn into office on 5th December 2005. He was re-elected as Deputy of St. Lawrence in 2008, 2011 and 2014 before being elected as Senator in 2018. He defeated incumbent Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, for that role by 30 votes to 19. Since then, the former St Lawrence Deputy has overseen a number of ongoing issues for the Island’s government including the new hospital, the civil service pay dispute, and the creation of a new Common Strategic Policy and Government Plan.
Erique Mvalo, Director of the Aztec Group, IoD Jersey Leader’s Lunch Sponsor, says:
“We’re delighted to be sponsoring this November’s IoD Jersey Leader’s Lunch. The Island’s business community values all opportunities to hear from our Government Ministers, especially in relation to future plans and the hot topics of the day. We look forward to an enjoyable and thought-provoking event.”
The lunch will take place at the Grand Hotel on 21 November. The event will begin with networking drinks at 12.30pm, followed by the presentation by Senator Le Fondré and a two-course lunch before closing at 2.30pm.
