Jersey’s Chief Minister, John Le Fondré is expected to announce at a press conference this evening, that non-essential retail can reopen on 27th January, and close-contact businesses such as hair and beauty on 3rd February.
It should be noted that these decisions remain subject to continued review of the positive case numbers.
The number of active Covid cases has reduced to 192, from a high of more that 1100.
The Chief Minister, Health Minister and Economic Development Minister will outline the cautious approach to reopening non-essential retail and close contact services, and the enhanced financial support being offered to all Jersey businesses.
Scientific and medical experts met on Monday to consider the current data, and to analyse the impact of the Christmas period and the reopening of schools. They presented their findings and advice to Competent Authority Ministers this afternoon and Ministers discussed whether it would be appropriate to move to the second stage of reconnection.
They have agreed that, with the data currently in front of them, they can give indicative opening dates of January 27th for non-essential retail and February 3rd for close contact businesses including hair and beauty etc. These decisions remain subject to continued review of the positive case numbers.
Further details of this process, and the enhanced financial support will be discussed with all States Members before the press conference at 7pm this evening, 21st January.
