Highvern has announced its sponsorship of a new school programme at Beaulieu, designed to introduce students to the rapidly expanding sport of pickleball.
This initiative, led by Thomas Price, Jersey Pickleball founder and coach, will run from September 2024 to April 2025, offering students an opportunity to learn new skills, stay active, and have fun.
Since its introduction to the island in 2022, Highvern has supported the growth of pickleball, an inclusive sport now rooted in Jersey with three purpose-built courts at the St. Clements Sports and Recreation Centre, as well as facilities at Fort Regent and the New Gilson Hall. Pickleball’s combination of agility, strategy, and teamwork makes it an ideal activity for students to explore and enjoy.
Phil Carlton, Client Director, Highvern, said: “We are delighted to sponsor this pickleball programme at Beaulieu. Pickleball is a sport embraced by many of our Highvern colleagues and their families in the jurisdictions around the world in which we operate, and we have been proud supporters of its growth on the island since it began in 2022. We are excited to now extend this opportunity to young people, giving them access to a sport that is not only rapidly gaining popularity but also highly accessible and enjoyable.”
As part of this initiative, Highvern will cover the costs of coaching fees and equipment such as rackets and balls. Students will receive expert training from Thomas Price and Tom Middleton, both champions of the HIGHVERN Pickleball League.
Thomas Price, Founder of Jersey Pickleball and Programme Coach, commented: “The sport has been growing in popularity, and it’s fantastic to see younger players getting involved. Pickleball is easy to learn, highly engaging, and suitable for all levels of athleticism – a perfect sport for school kids to try. I am thankful to Highvern for continuing to support pickleball as sport.”
Antoin Le Fevre, Head of Physical Education at Beaulieu, added: “This programme is an exciting new opportunity for our students to learn a sport that is both inclusive and fun. With the support of Highvern and experienced coaches, we believe our students will not only enhance their athletic abilities but also gain confidence, teamwork skills, and a love for a new physical activity.”
