A local mental health charity is recruiting new Board members from Jersey’s professional sector to support the charity in a voluntary capacity.
Jersey Recovery College (JRC) is a local mental health charity providing free education and training for people experiencing mental health difficulties and the families, friends and professionals who support them in Jersey.
The charity is also recruiting for a Chair, to lead the Board of Directors.
Executive Officer, Beth Moore, said: “JRC’s Board of Directors sets our strategy and oversees its implementation by our committed staff and volunteers. The Board is also responsible for ensuring our charity is governed correctly and is accountable for our financial performance and controls. The Chair is our figurehead.
“We’re looking for Directors with a range of personal and professional experiences including HR, senior leadership, business development, clinical expertise, corporate governance, legal and fundraising to join our existing Directors. Energy and interest are key. For the Chair role, we would love someone with strong leadership and innovation. We welcome those with lived experience of mental health difficulties.”
JRC’s programme of free courses support adults to enhance their knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions, recovery, wellbeing and life skills.
Beth added: “Events of the past 18 months have challenged our wellbeing, both physical and mental. Organisations like Jersey Recovery College, which provide support to individuals, have had to adapt, quickly, to a radical change in circumstances that has fundamentally affected our service provision.
“Finding ways to maintain the vital support that so many rely on has been an additional challenge. For JRC, the outcome has been a new way for students to access courses providing hope, opportunity and empowerment in the face of mental health difficulties, and a lesson in creativity, teamwork and resilience for our small team.
“We’re looking for new Board members who can bring additional skills, ideas and energy to our team as we continue to adapt to meet the challenges we face as an organisation and as a community.”
