Last year, 2020, was the wettest in Jersey on record since they began in 1894, according to the Jersey Met Office. The Maison St Louis Observatory recorded 1178.4mm of rainfall in 2020, which is 70.8mm above the previous annual record in 1960.

October 2020 was the wettest on record and December the second wettest, just 20mm shy of the all-time annual December record set in 1999. February, June, October and December were notably very wet when compared with the 30-year meteorological period average.

Last year, was the second warmest and the second sunniest since records began. It was the warmest Spring on record, and six individual months gained a top-ten ranking of warmest months.

Sunshine records at the Fort Regent Signal Station were established in 1925.

John Searson Principal Meteorological Officer at Jersey Met said, “Remarkably we have had record breaking rainfall and at the same time the second sunniest year. This can be explained by the exceptional Spring sunshine which everyone enjoyed during the lockdown period which boosted overall sunshine totals.

“The summer rain came in short heavy bursts with sunshine in between and the exceptionally wet months of October and December added hugely to the rain totals yet between them had the sunshine of a typical year.”
