The owner of a prestigious Jersey hotel and 20 years international experience as chair of Relais and Châteaux UK and Ireland, has been appointed Chair of the Jersey Hospitality Association’s Management Committee.
The industry body has also announced four new committee members following its Annual General Meeting.
Malcolm Lewis, the owner of Longueville Manor Hotel and Restaurant, was appointed Honorary Chair. He replaces the Liberation Group’s Tim Hubert who served three years in the role. Gavin Reid (pictured), Managing Director of Randalls, Matthew Jones, owner of The Moorings Hotel, Andrew Thomas, Managing Director of 3D Events, and Cedric Scherer, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hotel de France, were also voted in by members at the AGM.
The appointments will add further industry leadership, knowledge and international experience to the Jersey Hospitality Association’s (JHA) Management Committee, representing more sub-sectors in the hospitality industry.
Marcus Calvani, Co-CEO of the Jersey Hospitality Association, said: “I am thrilled to welcome our new board members who have such a broad range and wealth of industry experience. We restructured the JHA last year into sub-sectors of our industry and these additions to our board will provide further sub-sector expertise and strong representative voices for our members as we tackle the pressing issues facing our industry and the economy. Our board members are supportive of the new Visitor Economy Strategy which we have played a significant role in the creation of and will be helping their respective sub-sectors to deliver the changes needed for the visitor economy to grow and thrive in the future. This is a critical moment for our industry and having the best possible team to support our work is invaluable. Hospitality is key to the quality of life of all Islanders and to the success of Jersey’s wider economy.”
Malcolm Lewis re-joined the committee last year having previously been a member. His father was one of the founders of the Hotel and Guest House Association which later became the JHA. He brings a wealth of wisdom and experience gained during his extensive career in Jersey’s hospitality industry and through his membership of the Relais and Chateaux network.
Ana Calvani, Co-CEO of the Jersey Hospitality Association, added: “I would like to extend my thanks to Tim Hubert for his dedicated service to the JHA during his term as Chair and to Alex Dolan, who is stepping down as Vice Chair. They helped steer the industry away from the devastating years of the Pandemic, helping to build up the JHA and the industry as the Covid restrictions were lifted.
“We’ve now got a committee that’s full of enthusiasm and expertise who will help us represent our members and the industry as we push for change, lobbying the Government to remove barriers to business so that hospitality becomes as valued to our island as it once was. We are extremely optimistic about the future and with Malcolm and our four new Committee members, the JHA will be stronger than ever as we continue to work with the Government and our partners over the next year to represent the interests of our members and our industry.”
